With the festival of colours Holi slated on March 5, Seetharam, 18 years, along with his parents and younger brothers was planning to go to his native.

However fate had willed otherwise, as the mobile phone exploded soon after Seetharam plugged the charger to the plug box, leaving him severely injured on Tuesday.

This was how Poornadev Sahu and Ranidevi, the distraught parents of Seetharam recall their son’s happy moment before the blast, as they waited anxiously outside the burns Intensive Care Unit at JSS Hospital. Seetharam who is under treatment at the ICU, has been put on ventilator.

“Seetharam had just spoken with one of our relatives in Bihar on phone before handing over the cell phone to me. We were planning to seek leave for at least one month from our contractor for the festival,” said a teary eyed Ranidevi. According to Sahu, Seetharam wanted to listen to the songs stored on another cell phone, which had no SIM card. “As the battery had almost drained, he put it on charge. The moment he plugged the charger and pressed the key on the phone it exploded” added Sahu.

Even as Seetharam is showing signs of recovery, the doctor treating him says his condition is still critical. They want to operate upon him as soon as possible to prepare for the multiple surgeries in the future. However the falling blood count is forcing them to wait it out.
Plastic surgeon Dr Vijay L told Deccan Herald that a preliminary surgery had been conducted as first aid.

According Sahu, the contractor of the project has been taking care of the mounting expenses for the moment. “But I would be grateful for any financial assistance,” he added.
