Supporters of self-style godman Nithyananda have issued threats to makers of the Kannada film "Yaarivanu" in Tamil, despite assertions that the film does not mean to hurt the feelings of his followers.

The movie portrays misdeeds of a self-style godman.

Produced by Bengaluru-based Sara Pictures, the Kannada and Telugu versions of the movie was released in 2013, amid constant threats from Nithyananda’s supporters.

SARA Pictures Proprietor V Saravanan and Madan Patel, director and producer of the movie’s Tamil version, told reporters on Monday that Nithyananda supporters have been constantly threatening Chennai-based CNN Pictures that has won the dubbing rights.

“The High Court and the Censor Board had cleared the movie for release. There is nothing personal against him (Nithyananda),” they said.

However, Saravanan said staunch followers of Nithyananda have been warning the owner of CNN pictures of dire consequences, claiming that the film had portrayed the self-style guru in an objectionable way.  Reiterating that the film does not hurt the sentiments of anyone, he said: “The High Court has viewed the film and has concluded that there is nothing about Nithyananda.”

Pointing out that the film was a hit at the box-office both in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh; he said steps have been taken to release the movie in more than 100 theatres in Tamil Nadu soon.
