'Integrated approach needed to treat voice disorders'

ENT surgeon Dr Girish N Kulkarni on Thursday said integrated approach to the children suffering from voice related disorders will help in effectively treating them.

Speaking after inaugurating the two-day workshop on ‘Paediatric voice disorders: Assessment and management’ organised at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) here, Kulkarni from Apollo-BGS Hospitals said, the integrated approach will also help in identifying the other problems related to the voice disorders in them.

Continuing, Kulkarni said the voice disorders could be classified as -- children, adolescents and adults. By concentrating on isolated cases, it will help in studying the case history of the individuals too.

Acting director of AIISH Dr K C Shyamala said as children are also becoming the victims of speech and hearing related disorders in large numbers, the worksop is being held deliberate the action to be taken to address the same. As many as 300 students from different States are attending the workshop.
