Kalburgi chosen for 'Ranna Halegannada' award

Veteran litterateur and researher Dr M M Kalburgi has been chosen for the “Ranna Haleganada” award. The award will conferred at the “Ranna Utsava,” which will be organised by the Department of Kannada and Culture, the District Administration and the Zilla Panchayat, together, in Bagalkot on February 14. 

This was disclosed by Bagalkot deputy commissioner and chairperson of the Ranna Pratishtana, Mudhol, P A Meghannavar, at a press conference here on Thursday.The award carries a citation and a purse of Rs one lakh and will be presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at the function.

Those who have made immense contributions in the field of Halegannada and have actively involved themselves in research activities were shortlisted. 11 names, including Dr Kamala Hampana, Dr Taranath, Dr H S Venkatesh Murthy, Venkatachala Shastry, Chidanandamurthy Dr Shirur, were proposed before the Committee that was formed to select the name for the award.
