Launching a frontal attack on Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik, senior Samajwadi Party leader and state minister Azam Khan said his recent remaks had “instilled a feeling of fear” among the minorities, especially Muslims.

“Muslims fear that your displeasure with me may cost them dear,” Khan said in a letter to Naik.
Khan’s letter comes after Naik expressed his serious displeasure over certain remarks by the minister after the Governor advocated for a Ram temple at Ayodhya.
Khan had then asked the Governor not to cross his “mandate” and “interfere” in administrative matters.

“Your remarks could put Muslims on the target of those who call them pilla (puppy),” Azam said.
Azam said that the remark on the Ram temple was “politically motivated” and had hurt Muslim sentiments.

“I am associated with a political outfit and it is only natural that I should defend my government and party,” the Minister added.

The UP minister sought to draw Naik’s attention to the remarks made by Union minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and wondered why he had not taken cognisance of them.
Naik and Khan had been involved in a verbal duel and the Governor had even sought action against the minister for his remarks.
