Waveriders hunt for form as they take on Rays

Last Updated 13 February 2015, 18:07 IST

Delhi Waveriders are in desperate search of the form which made them the defending champions and a finalist in the inaugural edition. It has been a slow start for them this year and will be eager to bolster their campaign with another outing at the home, against Ranchi Rays, on Saturday.

With two wins, three draws and two losses from their seven matches, Waveriders are currently placed on fourth position with 17 points.  Rays, on the other hand, have already made the semifinals.  They are at second place with 29 points and would be looking to become the table toppers with a win at Major Dhyanchand National stadium.

The last meeting between the two teams had ended with a 2-2 scoreline with Waveriders squandering the lead and Ray holding them for a draw. Rays, since then, have gone on to register some spectacular wins and will enter the contest with the confidence.

Waveriders, on the other hand, have lacked creativity in their moves in the tournament. The rhythm in the side is missing and they need to work on their attack and penalty conversions. They are coming into the match with a 2-2 draw against Kalinga Lancers at Bhubaneswar.

Captain of Delhi Waveriders, Sardar Singh said the team had worked on their shortcomings, “With every team playing with their best players and strategies, the competition is really tough but we have a good team. We have worked on our loopholes and I am sure the Waveriders will now perform the way we have been performing in the last two seasons. We are still in the race for semi finals and will play against Ranchi Rays to win this game.”

Captain of Ranchi Rays, Ashley Jackson said: “Delhi Waveriders’ defence is strong and hence we have to keep the pressure on them and earn our penalty corners.”
