Last Updated 15 February 2015, 17:05 IST

Minister Satish Jharakiholi said, the Excise department has been successful in earning profit and increasing the government’s revenue by eight per cent and hinted at bringing about a few changes in the department.

Speaking to media persons, during a private visit to Hunsur, on Sunday, he said, the department has earned eight per cent more revenue than the previous year.
Plans are on for the upgradation of technology in the department.

In an effort to prevent people visiting the office for minor issues, online system will be introduced.

This will enable the public to get their work done with a click of the mouse, he said.

Change in portfolio
Satish said, though he had been requesting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for a change in his portfolio right from the formation of the government, he was assured only after the Periyapatna Assembly polls.

“Even now the CM has been assuring of the change at the right time, and I am waiting,” the Minister said.

Illegal sale
Sale of liquor is reported near the forests and tribal hamlets, though it has been banned. Stern action would be taken against violators, he warned. He clarified that the Ministry has not fixed any monthly target for the sale of liquor, as being reported.

Report awaited
Satish said, the government has been contemplating to sell liquor on the model of Kerala and Delhi. But a decision will be taken only after the report is submitted by the experts, he added.
