'Lingaa' distributors to protest by begging

Distributors of Rajinikanth-starrer “Lingaa” in Tamil Nadu have decided to launch a “begging” stir on Tuesday.

They are said to be dissatisfied with the inadequate compensation offer of 10 per cent made, made by the producers of the film, which incurred losses at the box office.
Film distributors and theatre owners who suffered huge losses from the much-hyped film have been organising a series of demonstrations, including hunger strike, since January seeking compensation.

Dissatisfied distributors and cinema hall owners reiterated on Sunday that they have decided to launch a “mass begging protest” in front of the Rajinikanth's Poes Garden residence in the city on February 17.

“We took the distribution rights of 'Lingaa' with the confidence that the film would fetch good collections. However, it flopped and several distributors and theatre owners in various districts incurred huge losses,” said Singaravelan, the Tiruchi and Thanjavur district distributor who is spearheading the agitation.

He said following recent protests to enforce the actor's intervention, the distributors were allegedly promised only 10 per cent (Rs 3.5 crore) reimbursement of their losses. “We declined a few days ago the amount offered by Rajini's representatives. It is too low,” he added.
