Last Updated 17 February 2015, 16:54 IST

*Bird scare is regular at the Aero India airshow held once in two years in Bengaluru

*A study by Grus Ecosciences and Aviation Ornithology Department shows that there are over 150 bird species in and around Jakkur aerodrome

* Black Kites and Brahmini Kites are the biggest problem. The newly added threat in the list are Pigeons

*In 2013 the inauguration was delayed by around 15-20 minutes because of bird menace

*Advisories issued to ensure garbage is not littered. Drum beaters were also being deployed at strategic places to scare the birds away

*Precautionary fire control drills have been performed along five kilometre radius of the flying zone

*Crackers will also be burst during early morning and evening hours to keep birds at bay

*BBMP and the gram panchayat have requested dhabas and eateries serving non-veg to manage their waste

*Officials also said that the municipalities have also been instructed to manage the Mavalipura dump site so that it does not attract birds of prey

*Warning was also issued to cat fish rearers around Razakapalya, to manage their chicken waste during this time

*To keep pigeons away from hangers, aerodrome and runway various acoustic instruments are used

*Kites are attracted to meat. Kites hover for around eight hours over runways
* Bitumen on runway generates heat which attract Kites

*The north west aerodrome position is another reason for Kites coming in; there is a drop in altitude and winds blow which keeps them cool

*It is advisable if, half an hour before sunrise, when kites sit on runways, around 15 people are positioned at various strategic locations to scare kites away. This is the immediate remedial measure.
