Disappointed with the way I finished

Last Updated 21 February 2015, 20:03 IST

To be honest, I’m quite disappointed especially with the way I finished. I played decently till the time I birdied ninth to get to seven-under. From there on I needed to push harder on the back nine but instead of going forward, I went backwards. That was terrible.

The 10th hole was where I lost my rhythm. I had two terrible three putts, on the fourth and last holes. The 10th hole has been a momentum killer for me this week expect for round two. I made the same mistake of hitting it over the green. I’m kicking myself for not having learnt from Thursday’s mistakes.

In past years, every time I made a run for the title, I managed to pick up a couple of shots on 10, 11 and 12. I wasn’t able to do that today. If you can get off to a good start on the back nine then it allows you to stay positive. I did the opposite today. Losing my ball on the 13th knocked the wind off my sails.

I’ve dropped too many shots this week. My goal tomorrow is to stay bogey free. I’ll take 18 pars right now because I’m a little bit upset with how I’ve been dropping shots.

Up there on the leaderboard, the way SSP Chawrasia and Siddikur are playing, I don’t think I have a chance. I can definitely make a run.

The last time we had the Indian Open, Siddikur went backwards. Sometimes funny things can happen on this course. Hats off to Chawrasia, he is playing great. He was bogey-free first two days and almost did the same again on the third till he dropped one on the 17th. Amazing. He is playing some terrific golf and a big win is due. It could come as soon as Sunday.

On Saturday, looking at the scorecards of SSP and Siddikur, it looked like a match-play as they went neck and neck and did not relent. Siddikur double bogeyed but hung in and he gained ground as SSP gave away his first bogey of the week and then the birdie on 18th brought him closer.

Sure, the gap has increased from one to two shots, but remember it was four at one stage for SSP till Siddikur came closer.

Golf sure can be tantalizing and it will be even more tantalizing on Sunday.
