Last Updated 22 February 2015, 21:07 IST

As Zilla Panchayat president Shareen Subbaiah didn’t get complete details on saplings planting and nurturing programme, initiated by the Social Forestry department, a decision was taken to visit all three taluks in the district and review the success rate in the first week of March.

The decision was taken at the monthly Karnataka Development Programmes (KDP) review meeting on Saturday.

The ZP president had directed the Social Forestry department officials to furnish details on villages where saplings had been planted and the release of funds by the government.

ZP member Bond Ganapathy sought details on how many saplings had been planted on one acre of land. Reacting to it, the official said that saplings had been planted on 895 acres of land.

As many as 3.50 lakh saplings have been planted on public places during monsoon. A total of 6,826 saplings have been planted on private land. It has been proposed to plant 6,977 saplings in the coming monsoon. However, the official failed to furnish details on the villages where afforestation had been taken up.

H1N1

Shareen Subbaiah directed the health officials to create awareness on the spread of H1N1 among the villagers and children in schools and colleges.

District Health Officer Dr O R Srirangappa clarified that H1N1 will not spread following the consumption of pork. Three persons have been tested positive to the H1N1 influenza. The district has enough stock of medicines to treat H1N1 infected. She said that all works related to drinking water projects should be completed by March 1.

Supply kerosene

The ZP president said that there were complaints about non availability of kerosene in Public Distribution System. Food and Civil Supplies Deputy Director should ensure that kerosene is supplied, she added.

Facilities should be given to all those forest dwellers who have received title deeds under Forest Rights Act, she added.

Shortage of sand

On the shortage of sand, Shareen Subbaiah said that sand blocks had not been identified in Virajpet taluk. Sand should be made available to all. The new sand policy has not been of any help to the common man, she added. Chief Project Officer Srinivas Rao said that 60 GPs in Kodagu district had won Nirmal Bharath Puraskar.

Measures have been taken to construct toilets in those houses which do not have facilities in 20 GPs that have failed to win Nirmal Bharath Puraskar.
