Mayurika 2015’, the annual inter-collegiate arts and cultural fest of St Claret College, was held recently. Along with a mega fashion show on the theme ‘Traditional yet Trendy’ which upped the glamour quotient of the fest, many dance, singing and arts events provided unlimited entertainment to everybody present.

The fest was inaugurated by Parvathy Nair, South Indian actor and model, in the presence of guest of honour Karthika Thomas, renowned classical dancer. Fr Varghese Karukulathel, manager of St Claret Institutions, Fr Joseph Mathew, administrator, Rev Fr Thomas Thennady, Principal and Rev Dr Sabu George, Vice-Principal were present on the occasion.

The onstage events were kicked off with a graceful kathak performance by Karthika. While addressing the participants, the guest of honour Fr Thomas Thennady, said, “The message I want to give to all of you, is to pursue your passion and live your life to the fullest and your motto must be participation greater than honours.” The chief guest’s advice to the students was “Follow your dreams because these fests will actually help you discover yourself.”

The off-stage events included collage, face painting, tattoo designing and photography. The on-stage events included group dance, solo dances, both Eastern and Western, and ‘Adaptune’. The overall championship was bagged by RBANM’s College while the fashion show was won by Army Institute of Fashion and Design.

Thirty colleges from Bengaluru participated in the annual event.  Those who watched the show said that it was nothing short of entertaining. Angela, the fest co-ordinator, said, “Mayurika, has grown bigger year after year with more participation, tougher competition and greater enthusiasm. Through this event, SCC provides an excellent platform for students to showcase their talents and build good relationships with their peers from other institutions.”

The students of the host college enjoyed organising the events meticulously. Jithin, the cultural representative, was content with the response. “A lot of hard work went into making it a great show. We were preparing for weeks, sending invites, assigning roles and getting logistics in place. We are very glad we received such a tremendous response,” he said.
