Posh tag no guarantor of amenities

Last Updated 28 February 2015, 23:01 IST

Localities like Thippasandra, Indiranagar, CV Raman Nagar and HAL Layout may be listed under the posh area category. They may be having better infrastructure, decent civic amenities and good connectivity, including Metrorail and bus services.

Yet, CV Raman Nagar Assembly constituency that includes these areas is not devoid of civic woes as was evident from the Janaspandana, organised by Deccan Herald and its sister publication Prajavani at the Poornaprajna School Grounds in Thippasandra on Saturday. Local MLA S Raghu and corporators of six wards under the constituency took part.

Members of BDA Layout Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA) said that the MLA had inaugurated a park an year ago, but it lacks maintenance. Chandrashekhar from the BBMP (Horticulture dept) said suitable action would follow in two days as the tender is in the final stages and contract for maintenance would be awarded.

T Seetharam from Jeevanbima Nagar suggested that 13 acres of land in his locality, which has been handed over to the HAL, can be converted into a beautiful park. Lakshmi Devi, Deputy Commissioner (BBMP East Zone) promised to take up the matter with her superiors.

A group of youth from Cauvery RWA spoke about poor condition of Kaggadasapura Lake. Spread over 34 acres, at least 2.5 acres of the lake have been encroached upon. Although a sewage treatment plant has been set up at Bhuvaneshwari Nagar, untreated water is let into the lake. A taluk office official said a survey of the lake would be undertaken and encroachments removed.

P C Nagendra Rao from Lal Bahadur Nagar complained about poor water supply. Residents from Murugan Temple Street, Puttappa Layout, complained that they are forced to buy water supplied through tankers due to poor supply by BWSSB. Some members from Kodihalli RWA stated that their area had not received water for the last three to four years.

Lohith K Prakash, junior engineer of BWSSB (Jeevanbima Nagar) said that he would look into the matter in two days.

Ranjit Sindhu, a resident of CV Raman Nagar, complained that sewerage lines were completely choked. BWSSB engineer P L Venu promised to sort out the problem in two days.

Gopalakrishnappa, a resident of Kodihalli 2nd main road, rued that garbage had not been collected from his area, forcing people to dump waste in vacant sites. Complaints were also made about traffic congestion, pedestrian safety and stray dog menace.

MLA Raghu (in pic) told Deccan Herald that parks and playgrounds were always his priority and so was protection and development of Kaggadasapura Lake.

Raghu said, “Encroachment of footpaths is a major problem. At a few junctions, people have complained about traffic jams and have sought for skywalks/flyovers. We are in the process of constructing a flyover at NGEF signal junction.”

Officialspeak

“We have formed special team for removal of illegal banners and flexes in CV Raman Nagar. People should co-operate with us”. Lakshmi Devi, Dy Commissioner, BBMP East division

“We will take action against miscreants if people complain to us. We are undertaking drives at night against those causing nuisance in public”.   Shivashankar Reddy, Inspector, Jeevanbima Nagar police station,

“Today, we got to know about their problems better. We will take up the matter on priority”. S R Chandradhar, Indiranagar traffic police inspector.

We are not getting Cauvery water for the last eight years, despite paying bills. We are dependent on private water tankers throughout the year. I have complained to the authorities, but no action has been taken.

Mounds of garbage can be seen at the entrance of Krishnanpalya. Poultry waste and carcasses of dogs are also dumped at times. I request the civic officials to take action.
