Honorary doctorates for three women achievers

The State Women’s University will present honorary doctorates to three women achievers, for their special contributions in the fields of science education, disabled welfare and religion, respectively said University Vice Chancellor Prof Meena R Chandavarkar.

The honorary doctorates will be presented at the 6th annual convocation to be held at the Jnanashakti Auditorium on the University premises on March 3, the vice chancellor informed.

Speaking with mediapersons here on Sunday, Chandavarkar said Vilasvathi Khuba, from Kalaburagi, who has been striving to ensure that the principles and ideals of 12th century religious reformer Basavanna and the Shivasharanas reached the common man. In recognition for her services in the field of religion, the State Women’s University will be honouring her with a doctorate.

Honorary doctorates will also be awarded to Indumathi Rao, from Bengaluru, who has rendered her services in popularising science education, and Madhu Singhal, in recognition of her services in the field of disabled welfare.

Golden girls

As many as 37 girls who have scored highest in their graduation and postgraduation examinations in various streams, will be receiving 46 gold medals. A total of 23 students will be awarded PhDs and seven students will be awarded MPhil at the annual convocation.

A total of 8,622 students, who have completed their graduation, postgraduation and postgraduation diploma courses, respectively, are eligible to receive their degrees, the vice chancellor said.
