The City Municipal Corporation (CMC) president Yuvaraj said that the water to the city, would henceforth be supplied on alternate days if it was found necessary, with many areas at high altitudes were not receiving water owing to low pressure.

Speaking at the CMC general body meeting, he said that there was sufficient water in Baje reservoir. But the technical problems would hit the supply of water. Hence the house is considering the option of providing water on alternative days to meet the requirements until the end of the summer.

Member Janardhan Bhandarkar stating that water supply on every alternative day would lessen the intensity of the problem said, the extra water connections, technical errors, pipelines, water supplied to the adjacent gram panchayats had resulted in the water scarcity in many areas.

Replying to the demand by the members to stop supplying water to the gram panchayats that had not paid bills amounting to lakhs of rupees, the Commissioner said that the notice had been served to such gram panchayats and the panchayat development officers were instructed to pay the bill within the period of 15 days.

The war of words among the members over the issues pertaining to Manipal University, led to a huge clamour and criticism.  Member Ramesh Kanchan said that the Manipal University was unethical in taking possession of the assets belonging to CMC and it was claiming the ownership over the parking slots which were under CMC in Manipal.

“The effluents from the ‘Valley View’ hotel is discharged into Saralabettu village. The road works, which was tendered in the area of MIT is obstructed by the University officials and the authority has vacated the rickshaw stand near MIT” he added.

And was hindering construction works of the road connecting deputy commissioner’s Office and Vijayanagara.Kanchan said that the the opposition was working hand in glove with the university administration and was silent over the issue.

Commissioner Manjunathayya  assured the members that necessary action would be initiated immediately against any illegal or unethical constructions.
