The City police have initiated a departmental inquiry against an inspector for “deliberately delaying registration of FIR on a complaint filed by a woman.”

DCP (West) Laburam submitted to the Upa Lokayukta Justice Subhash B Adi on Tuesday that charges have been framed against C R Raveesh, the inspector attached to Jnanabharathi police station for causing the delay.

The complainant, Deepika, had a dispute with her husband. The complainant stated the house at ITI Layout Mallathahalli was bought by her father but was registered in the name of her husband Lokesh. After she filed an application for divorce, the matter pertaining to the rights over the house was fought separately and is pending before the Supreme Court.

“Deepika went to the police station on October 5, 2014, to file a complaint. She claimed that her husband, his brother, one advocate, along with some anti-social elements, barged into the house with weapons and threatened her with dire consequences. The inspector made an entry of the complaint in the Station House Diary but refused to register the FIR. The DCP admitted that it has been proved that the inspector has not acted swiftly and delayed the registration of the FIR for over a month,” Justice Adi said.

Meanwhile, DCP (West) Laburam submitted that the investigation made thereafter revealed that there was an incident of barging into the house as claimed by the complainant. However, the accused had already obtained anticipatory bail. The Jnanabharathi police had filed the charge sheet against the accused on February 28. The DCP stated that further action will be taken in this regard.
