Notice to four Army officers in land scam

Last Updated 11 January 2010, 18:46 IST

The show-cause notices will be issued to Lt General Avdesh Prakash, one of the senior-most military officers in Army headquarters, who currently holds the post of a military secretary.  The others indicted in the case are Lt General P K Rath, Major Ramesh Halgali and P K Sen.

They are embroiled in a controversy over their alleged involvement in granting a no-objection certificate to a real estate promoter who sought to develop a plot next to the headquarters of the 33 Corps at Sukhna in Darjeeling.

Evidence

General Prakash is due to retire on January 31. A Court of Inquiry held at the Eastern Command in Kolkata found “prima facie” evidence in the involvement of all four Generals in the scam.  Defence Minister A K Antony is closely monitoring the development.
