More than 500 pre-nursery schools across the State will submit a memorandum to the minister for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar, seeking relaxation of registration norms.

The school heads, who met under the banner of Karantaka Council for Pre Nursery Schools (KCPS) here on Sunday, urged the State government to draft separate rules that would be applicable to independent pre-nursery schools. At present, the independent pre-nursery schools have also been asked to follow the regulations meant for pre-nursery schools attached to primary schools. Taking exception to this, the Council members have stated that the independent schools could neither afford the same kind of infrastructure nor was it necessary for them.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, KCPS president Aruna Prasad said: “If they ask us to maintain 18x20 classrooms, it will be very difficult, specially for those running the schools from rented buildings. We hardly have 20 or 30 students and hence the size of classrooms and the number of rooms specified by the State government would not be feasible.”

The Council members sought separate regulations that makes the registration process simpler. As per the revised regulations, the schools are expected to form a Society. That would not be practical, the members felt.

However, the members agreed in spirit with the government’s insistence on registration. In case of any untoward incidents, they should be able to track the school and hold the people accountable.
The representatives of the pre-schools, who participaed in the meeting, were willing to register with the government by providing their addresses and telephone numbers.
But they said the annual registration fee that the government has fixed would be taxing them.
