50 vehicles seized for violating permit norms

A team of Transport Department officials seized 50 vehicles on Wednesday including private buses, maxi cab, all India tourist buses/ contract carriages for illegal operations and violating permit conditions.

The drive that began in the morning was conducted at various locations including Gorguntepalya, Yeshwantpur, Sumanahalli, Hebbal and Majestic area.

During the drive, a passenger was found sleeping in the jam-packed luggage cabin underneath the bus with no air or ventilation and it was locked from outside. The bus was seized by the officials.

In another bus, a two-wheeler was illegally being transported in the luggage cabin with its tank full with petrol which was leaking in the luggage cabin.

Officials said: “It was horrifying to see the motorcycle inside the moving bus with its tank full. A small spark could have exploded the entire bus with the passengers in it. This two-wheeler was being transported from Kundapur to Bengaluru.”

In some of the buses, extra sleeper seats were fitted violating the permit conditions.
