Protests choke City roads

Last Updated 16 March 2015, 21:37 IST

Stress levels of motorists went up by a few notches on Monday as three massive protest rallies in the City affected vehicular movement in the central parts for about an hour.

The police had blocked vehicular movement at the Freedom Park Junction – towards Gandhinagar in view of the protest and procession by anganwadi workers. The impact of the traffic jam was felt on JC Road, KG Road, KR Circle and even parts of Malleswaram.

Traffic police had allowed traffic movement on the Anand Rao flyover, even when the procession by anganawadi workers was passing through. The police widened the auto-lane barricades and allowed traffic on the flyover. However, the right turn at the Karanatak State Prisons Department Head Office to reach Gandhinagar was closed. Motorists had to move till the KR Circle signal to take a right turn.

“There were three protests in the City and it was a Monday as well. There was a bit of disturbance in the vehicular movement for some time. Traffic had returned to normalcy by around 2.30 pm,'' an official said.

Besides the anganawadi workers, people from the Balija community and doctors affiliated to various associations staged demonstrations at Freedom Park on Monday.
