Art gallery opens at Shiroor mutt today

The gallery was built by Sri Lakshmivaratheertha Sripada, who is ascending the ‘Paryaya Peetha’ on January 18.

Speaking to the media persons here on Tuesday, Shiroor mutt Deewan Lathavya Acharya said that the mutt has been encouraging and promoting fine arts for past several decades.  Sri Lakshmivaratheertha Sripada will inaugurate the gallery in which he plans to hold several art camps and exhibitions in association with Artists’ Forum, Udupi, during his next two years of Paryaya.

Senior artist Ramesh Rao of the Artists’ Forum, Udupi, informed that the inaugural show of paintings will be held at the gallery from January 14 to 20. As many as 36 artists will exhibit over 100 paintings in mediums like water colours, oil and acrylic. Besides this, there will also be a photo exhibition.  This is for the fist time in the State that a mutt has come forward to set up an art gallery for the promotion of fine arts, he said.
