A day after a Pune-based IAS officer Maruti Sawant was arrested for allegedly molesting and raping minor girls, the Maharashtra government on Friday placed him under suspension and assured a thorough probe.
Sawant, 58, a promotee IAS officer, was the director general of the Maharashtra Council of Agricultural Education and Research. He was produced before a magistrate’s court, which remanded him to police custody for 10 days. He was due for retirement in a few months.
A case against Sawant has been registered with Sinhagad Road police station for offences under relevant sections.
