Prosecutor for 26/11 Mumbai terror attack Ujjwal Nikam finds himself in the middle of a controversy with the Maharashtra government seeking explanation for his comments on Kasab being served briyani.
In the sidelines of a recent international conference on counter terrorism in Jaipur, Nikam said he concocted the story of Kasab demanding briyani in prison to break the emotional atmosphere.
“Kasab never demanded biryani and was never served by the government. I concocted it just to break an emotional atmosphere which was taking shape in favour of Kasab during the trial of the case,” Nikam said. “(Nikam’s) statement is unfortunate,” revenue and agriculture minister Eknath Khadse said. “We will demand clarification from him after discussing with the Chief Minister.”
Media-savvy and highly experienced, Nikam has been a special prosecutor in several high-profile terror cases including the 1993 Mumbai serial blast case.
