<p>A 10-year-old boy hanged himself from the ceiling fan at his home on Monday after allegedly being scolded by his parents for preferring games to academics.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The boy left behind no suicide note and did not indicate to his parents that he was ending his life.<br /><br />He used his mother’s saree to hang himself, said police on Tuesday.<br /><br />Bittu, enrolled as a class-5 student at a local government school in north Delhi’s Burari, was not keen in academics.<br /><br />“He would show little interest in studies because of which his parents would frequently scold him,” a senior police officer told Deccan Herald.<br /><br />He used to be sad and quiet of late, but his parents did not suspect anything wrong.<br />Wanted to play<br /><br />Bittu returned from school on Monday and sought permission from his mother Munni to be allowed to go out and play. <br /><br />“But his mother refused and scolded him for being disobedient of late,” the officer said.<br />The boy did not request any further and sat down in his room with books.<br /><br />A few minutes later, Bittu went into a small room located on the third floor of his house in Baba Colony of Burari.<br /><br />“He placed a stool on the bed in the room and hanged himself from the ceiling fan. He had not even closed the door from inside,” the officer said. <br /><br />His mother went looking for him at 8 pm after he did not respond to her calls.<br />She raised an alarm on seeing her son hanging.<br /><br />Locals arrived and brought down the boy and rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.<br /><br />Police said they received a call from the hospital staff.<br /><br />A native of Bihar, Bittu lived with his parents and three siblings in Burari.<br /><br />His father Janardhan works at an auto spare parts shop in the area.<br /></p>
