Students selected for scholarships

Ten students of various schools and trained by Centre For Advanced Learning, Kuntikana, Mangaluru, for IIT-JEEk advanced JEE (Main), have been selected for Kishor Vaigyani scholarships, having successfully cleared Kishor Vaigyanik ProtsahanYojna (KVPY) 2014-15 conducted by Department of Science and Technology.

Briefing reporters, CFAl Principal Severine Rosario said Pradeep Pai B and Adarsh Somayaji studying in II PUC at Canara P U College, Leon Fernandes (XII std), Aneesh Aithal (XII std), Vilas M (XII std), Swapnil P Kumar (XII std), Yashas Samaga (XI std) and Kenrick Pinto (XI std), studying at Lourdes Central School, Siddharth V studying in XII std at National Institute of Open Schooling and Rithwik S V studying in Kendriya Vidyalaya, Panambur were selected.

Severine said students will get a scholarship of Rs 1,12,000 per annum, for the study of basic sciences and will be eligible for direct admissions to institutes such as IISc’s and IISER’s that specialise in basic sciences. They can attend study camps organised by various scientific institutions, attend lectures and workshops of renowned scientists. Besides this, an identity card is provided to them which gives them access to various prestigious laboratories, libraries, scientific and research institutions throughout the country.

She added that KVPY is a programme started in 1999 by the department of science and technology, Government of India in-order to encourage students of basic sciences to take up research careers in these fields.
