Raids nets assets worth Rs 7.5 cr

Excise deputy commissioner and six other government officials in Lokayukta net

 
The list of officials (figures in bracket are actual income): Asad Ali, deputy commissioner of Excise, Bidar (Rs 45 lakh) Rs 1.69 crore; Shivaram, First Division Assistant in BDA (Rs 20 lakh) Rs 99.77 lakh; T Basavaraju, Block Education Officer, Mysore (Rs 57 lakh) Rs 73.46 lakh; K L Nagaraj, Senior Motor Vehicle Inspector, Bidar (Rs 40 lakh) Rs 93.65 lakh; Basavareddy V Lingadal, Police Inspector, Kittur Circle (Rs 27 Lakh) Rs 1.39 crore; Shaik Samiulla Sherief, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Mysore (Rs 40 lakh) Rs 1.11 crore and Shivaji Kavale, AEE (awaiting posting) earlier worked at Gulbarga.

From the initial reports, it has come to light that Kavale owns a petrol bunk on Humnabad Road near Belur Cross in Gulbarga worth around Rs 20 lakh.

Lokayukta Santhosh Hegde pointed out that the seized properties of the corrupt officials were taken from the sale deed value and not the current market rate.

Deputy Commissioner of Excise, Bidar, Asad Ali topped Tuesday’s list of disproportionate wealth.

He joined the service in 1975 as Excise inspector and has amassed Rs 1.69 crore.

Shivaram, a First Division Assistant in BDA and currently working as a Private Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner (Acquisitions) has made around Rs 99.77 lakh.

K L Nagaraj, senior motor vehicle inspector, Bidar has amassed wealth to the tune of Rs 93.65 lakh.

Jayalaxmi issue

Hegde said the raids on the expelled Bangalore University Syndicate member was still on and another bank locker (SBI Vijayanagar branch) is likely to be opened on Wednesday.

Sources said the accused gave a tough time to the Lokayukta sleuths. Many a time, she used her son and other relatives to collect money. Her husband is a joint commissioner of Excise.

On the mining issue he said, "We will pursue the matter until it reaches a logical end.

A petition is pending in the high court — Green Bench — and they are also monitoring the issue. The matter was delayed due to the election code of conduct... let’s wait for another week," said Hegde.

Sampangi case

The accused is yet to give voice samples and now, we have decided to proceed without it and file the charge-sheet.

When asked about the allegations in serving notices, he said, there was some problem in locating the complainant's residential address and when he dropped into our office, we called the jurisdictional police and helped in serving the notice.

On the irregularities in the construction of UB City he said, “Our recommendations are clear and it's up to the BBMP to set things right.

Meanwhile, the BBMP technical committee has given a clean chit and has brushed aside that they it has not ignored any law while giving permission to the building.
