The High Court on Thursday directed the State government to submit the documents it had submitted to the governor to nominate V S Ugrappa, K Abdul Jabbar, Ivan D’Souza, Abdul Ahmed Saradagi, Jayamala as members of the Legislative Council (MLCs).
While hearing a petition filed by S Rajendran, former MLA, who has questioned the nomination of MLCs, Justice H G Ramesh directed the government to file objections.
The petitioner contended that as per Article 171, the nominated members must have knowledge about literature, science, art, co-operative movement and social service and five members who were nominated to the Council were not eligible.
The bench sought details that government submitted to the governor while nominating them.
