'India is poised to become super power in M&E'

Last Updated 27 March 2015, 16:46 IST

India has the ability and is poised to become a superpower in the media and entertainment (M&E) industry according to minister of state for information and broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.

“India has about 200 million houses with television sets, 160 million youth with mobiles, one lakh newspapers and 92 per cent of the country is covered by radio. With these resources, India is poised to become the superpower in the media and entertainment sector,” Rathore said while speaking at FICCI-Frames 2015.

A lot of hardwork, however, is required for this. We should be able to produce content that can make a foothold anywhere across the globe, Rathore said, adding that the information & broadcasting ministry will be working hard, on its part, to ensure that media units across the country improve.

Rathore said that the ministry is looking at creating a centre of excellence (CoE) for the industry.

“There is no structural education in script writing. The ministry wants to create a CoE for gaming, animation and special effects,” Rathore said.
