Kingpin arrested in gang rivalry

Last Updated 28 March 2015, 02:03 IST

A gang leader has been arrested for killing two men over gang rivalry in separate incidents in the capital in the last two years.

Mohammad Danish Jamal and his gang have also robbed several businessmen in south Delhi, police said on Thursday.

Danish, who hails from Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district, was nabbed near GB Road in central Delhi.

“Danish had whipped out a pistol on being surrounded by a police team, but was overpowered and apprehended,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.

In a simultaneous operation, Danish’s close aide Deepak Sirohi was also arrested near Dilshad Garden Metro station parking with a pistol.

In October 2014, Danish had shot dead a criminal named Zahid in Jafrabad.
It was the second attempt to kill him as Danish had also shot Zahid in May last year. Zahid had survived despite being shot in the chest.

Danish’s enmity with another gang over ‘area domination’ had also led to the killing of a man named Aakil in November 2013. Aakil was shot dead.

On Tuesday, an input was received that Danish was planning to execute another heinous crime in Delhi and expected to meet an accomplice near GB Road.

He was also planning to meet Deepak near Dilshad Garden Metro station.

Late on Tuesday, Danish was spotted on a motorcycle near GB Road.

“He was asked to surrender, but whipped out his pistol and tried to flee. After a brief scuffle, police managed to overpower him,” Yadav added.

A case under Indian Penal Code and Arms Act has been registered with Special Cell police station.

Danish’s first major crime was in 2009 in east Delhi’s Mandawali.

He along with accomplices had robbed a petrol pump owner at gunpoint and had killed a security guard.

Later, the gang had robbed Rs 1.80 lakh from cash collection agent in north-east Delhi’s Jafrabad.

In 2010, Danish’s gang had robbed Rs 55 lakh from a businessman near north-west Delhi’s Keshavpuram and followed it up with another robbery of Rs 49 lakh from the employees of a firm in south Delhi’s Okhla.
