A better place to live in

Small Steps
Last Updated 15 January 2010, 13:06 IST

Walk Along, an NGO, is the dream of a group of socially responsible individuals reaching out to help eradicate poverty and disseminate to the masses the message — ‘small steps makes big difference’. Through hard work and selfless efforts, Walk Along provides the platform to every individual to march hand in hand, in the journey of spreading peace and serenity all over.

Two social workers from Alliance Business School, Lupa Borah from India and Valentina Heuschmidt from Germany, initiated the Walk Along journey with the objective of creating individual social responsibility and adoption of villages. Walk Along has successfully adopted Chikahagre village in Anekal under their three-tier strategy, that is, employment generation, healthcare and education development.

Walk Along and Magic Mirror, headed by CEO Joshua Michael, are organising a Clean Street Rally with the prime mission of creating awareness regarding Cleanliness and Patriotism under the project Individual Social Responsibility on January 26, from 10 am to 9 pm.

Stalls will be placed throughout where students from the participating colleges and schools will display their ideas on recycling of waste and waste management. Students will place waste bins at different places and go door to door distributing pamphlets, spreading the message Clean India, Clean and Clear Thoughts.

Also, emphasis would be given on handicraft and other areas of self-employment and empowerment. The rally will start from the BBMP Ground, located at Koramangala 6th Block, near the bus stop and public toilet, and end at Raheja Arcade, where the National Flag will be hoisted and cultural events will be held by participants.

Students coming up with best innovative idea would be given the ‘leaders of the youth’ certificate along with a cash price of Rs 5,000. The Clean India, Clear Thoughts rally is an initiative towards contributing largely to the society we all live in and making it a better place.
