City govt to send food, water to Nepal, medic teams on standby

The city government on Sunday decided to send 25,000 packets of food and drinking water each as immediate relief for the victims of earthquake-hit Nepal.

“The first consignment of relief material is ready to be dispatched on Monday and the state government is also ready with other forms of dry eatables to be sent to Nepal,” the government said in a statement.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other officials. The chief minister also spoke to the ambassador designate of Nepal in India and assured help to the people of the neighbouring country.


Kejriwal said residents of Delhi shared the grief of affected people of Nepal.
“The city government is ready to provide relief material on a daily basis till the time it will be required. The process of sending relief material will be coordinated with the central government by the chief secretary and the divisional commissioner,” it added.


Ten teams of doctors (five teams of surgeons and five teams of general doctors) are ready on standby and can be sent the moment the central government will require their services.
Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain has informed that stocks of emergency medicines have been kept ready for dispatch.

“The Delhi government has also conveyed to the central government the readiness of civil defence volunteers to participate in relief and rehabilitation work,” it said.
