List illegal structures of Manipal University, officials told

City Municipal Council President Yuvaraj directed officials to produce details of constructions, roads and parking lots owned by Manipal University.

Speaking at general body meeting, he directed officials to look into illegal structures, roads, and parking zones set up by Manipal University.

Retorting to query raised by member Ramesh Kanchan, City Municipal Council Commissioner Manjunathayya said a letter has been written to the university to furnish details of documents and licenses pertaining to constructions, roads and parking zones within a week.

Member Prashant Nayak alleged that university has violated all norms. He demanded that the university should clear public roads which have fenced with iron rods. He alleged that that CMC is not informed over any structures taken up by the university.

Besides, the play ground is transformed into premises for 14 stored building, he alleged. President directed the officials to inspect documents and clear public roads encroached by the university. He said the map of areas owned by the university in Shivalli, Herga and 80-Badagabettu should be submitted to the house within three days, he ordered.

If the University fails to furnish details, water connection would be disconnected, he cautioned. Opposition leader M R Pai demanded clarification over allegations made by Kanchan, alleging that BJP has joined hands with Manipal University.

He demanded the Commissioner should find out the truth. If the allegation is untrue, the member should apologise, he added.

Member Jyoti Naik urged for action against Manipal University for compound wall built by the university against the public road in Vijayanagara. Commissioner said the university has stopped the work following direction by CMC.
Measures would be taken

The measures would be taken after the survey, he added. President said CMC would take stringent measure if the university encroaches on public property. He said the university should immediately stop taking government land on lease and fencing the area. Member Vijaya Manchi said big shopping complexes that do not have parking lot are creating inconveniences to vehicular movement. The prolonged debate ended up in the decision to issue notice to the shopping complexes that are set up in parking zones.
Members also demanded action against buses that exceed speed limit within City area and against buses with harsh horns.

Commissioner said RTO has been informed and directed the traffic police inspector to take action against migratory workers who assemble in large number in City bus stop area. He said proceedings over the issue would be dispatched to Superintendent of Police. He said zebra crossing would be set up at four junctions and measures would be taken to remove the illegal hoardings and banners, he added.
