How many times does a stand-up comedy show make you cry? Paradoxical as it may sound, Papa CJ’s show on Friday night in the city was a bit of a surprise for the entire audience. Not only was it a fund raiser for the victims of Nepal earthquake but it was also something that ‘Chirag Jain’ aka Papa CJ believes is should be credited for his evolution as a human being.

While not swaying away from the usual technicalities of a stand-up comedy show, ‘Papa CJ Naked’ was the first time that the comedian opened up about his personal life, where laughter was abruptly interrupted by tears and Papa CJ transformed into a completely different person for his fans.

It was perplexing yet amazing to see the man who cracks the funny bone in a hilariously artistic way, suddenly turn teary-eyed and emotional, baring his heart about the saddest phases of his life. On a sombre note he said, “Over time you just mature and evolve as a human being. The show is just my progression which has bought me to a place where I need to tell a story. Five years ago, I don’t think I could have done something like this.”
However, in keeping with the mood and the underlying theme of ‘Papa CJ Naked’,
the comedian was down to his boxers, by the end of the show!

“The ‘Naked’ in Papa CJ Naked is ‘metaphorical’. Being physically naked has very little significance on me. As a person you develop these walls around yourself, which have to be broken after a certain point of time. The important thing is that I got out of those walls and opened up, being more naked than I could possibly be!” the comedian told Metrolife with a sigh.

While at the conclusion of a regular Papa CJ show people end up being overwhelmed with happiness and uncontrollable laughter, the audience reaction to this show was quite different. Not only was the audience thankful to him for a ‘complete enlightenment’, but they were also enthralled by his creativity in making them both laugh and cry at the same time!

“This is my favourite part of the show! I see some people crying, some laughing and some stepping out with a different approach and positivity towards life.” he rejoiced. “I will now”, he continued, “be featuring this show in as many places as I can,” he promised.

So for all those diehard Papa CJ fans who want to be a part of this fantastic show, picture abhi baaki hai!
