Happy with the bowling, says Siddons

“I am really happy with the bowling performance. The fielders too did a great job today. We took the last two wickets quickly. If the tail had hung around with him, Tendulkar could have taken them to a bigger total. So I am happy,” Siddons said at the end day second day’s play after India, resuming on 213 for eight, were restricted to 243 in their first innings.

However, Siddons expressed his disappointment at his team losing three wickets in just 17 overs. “Three wickets, while batting, at the end of the day was pretty ordinary effort.  We had two bad shots today. There was no instruction to be extra aggressive. Transition from one-dayers to Test can get a little tougher for some. But overall we are in a good position in the game,” he said.

Looking ahead, Siddons said, “I am hoping they will apply themselves. I am hoping for one of the remaining batsmen to hit a hundred and we still have batsmen who can hit Test hundreds.”

On the weather, Siddons said, “There is still three days to go. We got only a few overs today and that left every one disappointed. We would have liked to bat more.”
Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, meanwhile, seems to have recovered from the back spasm which ruled him out of the first Test.

Dhoni was on Monday seen bowling in the nets after play was suspended due to bad light.

Dhoni bowled at openers Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag during the practice session.  His unavailability for the series-opener was only known on the eve of the match and Sehwag was asked to lead the side.

Dhoni might be fit for the second Test, scheduled to start in Dhaka on January 24.
