Man thrashed, his car smashed in road rage

Last Updated 05 May 2015, 02:12 IST

In a second road violence reported from the city in a span of 24 hours, a 35-year-old man was thrashed by a group of three men when he asked them to make way for his car.

The accused also allegedly misbehaved with his aged parents, smashed his WagonR car and robbed his gold ring, he alleged in his complaint to police. Though the victim suffered multiple injuries to his head, his condition is said to be stable. Police arrested one of the accused the same night, while his two accomplices are still on the run. Police said all the three men are 24 years old.

The incident took place on a jammed road in outer Delhi’s Rohini at 9 pm on Sunday while the victim Amarjeet Chopra was driving his parents Premdas and Rani to attend a family function in the area. Chopra lives in Rama Vihar in Rohini Sector-8 and works for a private company.

As Chopra’s WagonR car reached near Ambedkar Hospital, it accidentally brushed past a Swift Dzire car due to lack of enough space on the road.

Police said Chopra asked the youth driving the car to reverse his vehicle as that would allow him to move on.

“But the three youths in the car refused to budge and instead began abusing him for brushing past their car. That turned into a heated exchange between the two parties and quickly turned violent,” said a police officer.

The three youths allegedly pulled out Chopra from his car and thrashed him. When his parents tried to intervene, they too were pushed away and verbally abused, police said. The accused apparently did not stop at that as they went about smashing the windscreen of Chopra’s car. The suspects had fled by the time police arrived. Chopra was admitted to Ambedkar Hospital, where his head wounds were stitched before being discharged.

A case of assault, criminal intimidation and wrongful restraint, among others, was registered with Rohini North police station.

Since the victims had provided the registration number of the vehicle of the accused, police arrested one of them, identified as Mayank, that very night. A hunt is on for the rest.
