South-Indian actress Parvathy Nair, who bagged the SIIMA award for the Best Female Debutant in the Kannada film, ‘Story Kathe’, is excited and nervous as she awaits the response of the audience to the movie ‘Vasco-da-gama’. In this film, she plays the character of a college girl and she hopes that this singing debut of hers will be well-received.

This Bengaluru girl is also acting in a Malayalam film under the Anil Radhakrishnan banner with a multi-star cast. The project revolves around an interesting plot that comprises characters who lead contrasting lives. A movie that focusses on the lives of city dwellers as well as women working in the forest, Parvathy plays a pivotal role here. “The set looks like it’s out of an old English film,” she says, excitedly.

Beginning her shoot from May 12, she is looking forward to working in the wild for the first time and is taking up the project with a positive attitude. A choosy actress with a keen eye for good scripts and details, she believes that the director makes a world of difference to the film. “The director is one who nourishes our craft and from whom we get to learn a lot. I am very keen to work with this director and as he knows about my past projects, he agreed to cast me in the film.”

Apart from this, she also looks for a big production house so that her movies will be released and marketed to the right extent and she gets meaty roles.

After acting in Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam films, is Hindi her next stop? Parvathy agrees that she would act in a Bollywood film if a script catches her eye and she feels that the film is heavy with substance. And if she is given a role that is extremely stressful, she would spend a lot of time thinking and preparing for it. “I enquired about a Hindi film that has a big banner and a star cast but later rejected it as the storyline didn’t interest me much.”

She is thankful that most of the films that she has completed are “pretty decent ones” and that she doesn’t have to cope with  “many flops”. “If you are the main person running the film, the audience response and the money affects you. But if its a multi-cast movie, you can always share the credit and the blame,” she laughs.

She is currently spending some time with her family. She feels that family get-togethers and quality time with relatives and friends are stress-busters for a busy actress.
