Cycling for Nepal

Noble cause
Last Updated 08 May 2015, 14:45 IST

In an effort to raise funds for the victims of quake-stricken Nepal, a Bengaluru-based cyclist group called ‘Bums On The Saddle’ (BOTS) is joining hands with Nepalese Young Entrepreneurs’ Forum (NYEF) to organise a 14 km cycle ride on May 10 in the City. This will be from Cubbon Park via Queen Victoria Statue towards Trinity Circle and back to Infantry Road. The ride starts at 6.45 am and will last for about one and half hours.

Payal Kini of BOTS says, “We are hoping to ride as a community of bikers so we have an age-no-bar target. If people are bringing children, they can join at flag off point and ride for a short one kilometre as the ride is a 14 km distance.”

“This ride does not have a registration fee or ticket. We encourage bikers to make a donation to support the cause behind the ride,” Payal adds.

As the first step towards rehabilitation and building, NYEF has adopted their first village – Nallu. “They have joined hands with Nepal Society for Earthquake Technology (NSET) to start designing earthquake resistant low cost houses for this village. The NYEF team has also secured a pledge from Shera Thailand to provide roofing for 300 houses,” says Payal.
