Last Updated 10 May 2015, 17:35 IST

Two persons including a 58-year-old traffic sub-inspector committed suicide in the City since Saturday.

The deceased police officer has been identified as Gangadharaiah, attached to Yeshwantpur traffic police station. He was living with his wife and son at HMT Layout in Jalahalli.

On Saturday around 9 pm, Gangadharaiah returned home from work and hung himself from the ceiling. The incident came to light when his son returned home and noticed his father hanging. He informed the police and his mother, who had gone to her relative’s house.

The police shifted the body for post-mortem.

It is learnt that Gangadharaiah was reeling under heavy debts and was unable to repay it. He was trying to arrange money to repay the loans. He had stood as a guarantor for a loan borrowed by his friend, who passed away recently. He had slipped into depression owing to the debt burden and this might have led him to take the drastic step, police said.

Homemaker found dead
In another incident, a 28-year-old homemaker’s body was found floating in Sankey Tank in Sadashivanagar on Sunday.

According to police, the deceased has been identified as Rekha, a resident of Banashankari first stage and a native of Doddaballapur. She was married to Sripad Rao, a software engineer in a private company, around a year ago. On Saturday night, she jumped into Sankey Tank to end her life.

On Sunday afternoon, a few people noticed a body floating in the lake and informed the police, who shifted the body for post-mortem.

In their attempt to trace the identity of the woman, the police had sent a message to all police stations in the City.

Meanwhile, the husband and family members of Rekha had lodged a missing complaint in Girinagar police station. Acting on the information from Sadashivanagar police, the family members were asked to identify the body. They confirmed it to be that of Rekha, police said.

The parents of Rekha claimed that their daughter was under treatment for depression for the past couple of months. They said there was no discord between the couple, the police added.
