BBMP administrator orders facelift of City

Last Updated 12 May 2015, 06:36 IST

In an apparent bid to give a facelift to the City before the civic body elections, the BBMP Administrator T M Vijayabhaskar and Commissioner G Kumar Naik gave a slew of directions to improve the road infrastructure in the City.

At a meeting on Monday, Vijayabhaskar and Naik directed the BBMP engineers to make the roads motorable wherever it has suffered damage in the recent rains. The top bureaucrats told the engineers that they have already directed them to fill the potholes on the arterial and sub-arterial roads. If the liability period of the contract is not over, the repair work of torn-off roads should be done by the contractors.

The engineers were strictly told to put up boards at places where the public works are being carried out detailing the name of the work, contractor, commencement and completion date of the work, in charge engineer and the estimated cost of the project. The bureaucrats told the engineers that the work carried out by the State government should not be mixed with the BBMP work and in this regard separate accounts should be maintained.

During the meeting, the traffic cops complained against the BWSSB for damaging the roads while repairing or laying fresh water and sanitary pipelines.

They said the BWSSB and other agencies are least bothered about the investment made on the road infrastructure and the traffic bottleneck created due to the bad roads. The BWSSB engineers, present there, said they would establish better coordination with the BBMP before carrying out any project.
