Meenakshi and Amit came to Bengaluru from Delhi a year ago with their children — Akshay and Aseem. Needless to say, they have fallen in love with Bengaluru.

.

While Meenakshi hails from Jalandhar, Amit is from Delhi. It was work that brought the two to the City.

They were able to settle down quickly in the City initially but did face communication problems as they were not familiar with the South Indian languages.

Now, when they look back, they feel that shifting to Bengaluru was a good choice they made.

While Meenakshi is an entrepreneur, Amit works in a packaging company. Their children are studying engineering outside the City.

“I love Bengaluru. Even before we moved here, he used to come to the City on work. Though he was used to the atmosphere, I was slightly apprehensive to move to a different city with a completely different culture. However, the people here are kind and generous, which has made our stay enjoyable,” she says.

Among other things, the couple enjoy interacting with people and have many friends here.

“Bengalureans are kind and generous. They mind their own business,” adds Amit.
Back in Delhi, this Punjabi family used to feast on a range of rich food items like ‘sarson ka saag’, ‘makke ki roti’, ‘chole-bhature’, ‘muttar paneer’ and ‘tandoori’
food.

When it comes to the food in Bengaluru, they are happy that there are plenty of options available here.

“We just love food and thankfully, in a metropolitan city like Bengaluru, one
can get everything. The food culture in the City is amazing and evolving by the day. We love to experiment and Bengaluru offers a variety of dishes from different parts of the country,” adds Meenakshi.

Meenakshi also enjoys shopping in this fashion-conscious city. “From glittery ‘kurta pajama’ sets to Patiala suits, one can find everything here. I follow fashion trends and I feel that shopping in Bengaluru is very different from that of the North. There, street shopping is more of a culture. Here, it’s more about shopping in branded stores. Looks like people here are more brand conscious,” says Meenakshi.

During their free time, the couple enjoy watching movies and shops in the malls. The duo also love the weather here, which is salubrious, the parks and the greenery around.

“Lalbagh is one of our favourite places in the City. We love being amidst the trees and flowers there,” says Amit.

Talking about work culture, the couple say that they find Bengalureans honest and dedicated.

“The work culture is the same in Delhi and here but we feel that the women here are very hard working and committed. The City also respects women and is a safe place for working women,” adds Meenakshi.

Although every city has its pros and cons, Amit feels that the traffic is the biggest problem in Bengaluru.

“It would be good if people could maintain road discipline. Sometimes rules are not followed. Road rage is also a problem.”

All said and done, Amit and Meenakshi are thoroughly enjoying their stay in
the City and looking forward to building a strong bond with it.
