Tremors once again jolted many parts of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, which claimed three lives and left over two dozens injured.

The tremors shook the state twice within a span of 30 minutes, triggering panic among the people, who rushed out of their houses and offices to take shelter in open spaces.
Three people were reportedly killed in incidents of house collapse in Sambhal, Mahoba and Hamirpur districts. Over two dozen people were injured in incidents of walls and roofs collapse in different parts of the state.

A 52-year old man identified as Pujan Sadhu died at Chori Ram village in Kushinagar district after he dashed against a wall while trying to run away from his house when the tremors hit the district.

A 70-year old woman died when she fell accidentally into a river while she was trying to run towards an open space in the same district, reports said.

Tremors were felt at Lucknow, Maharajganj, Deoria, Azamgarh, Unnao, Sant Kabir Nagar, Varanasi, Meerut, Basti, Agra and some other districts. No damage was caused to any important religious or historical buildings, official sources here said.

Quake also caused panic at a programme organised at UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s residence. Akhilesh and others present at the function left the venue in a hurry.
