Revenue and District in-charge Minister V Srinivas Prasad, on Wednesday, said, the forthcoming convention of the Congress party at Davangere, to celebrate two years of ascending power, is to retrospect its style of functioning in the State.

Speaking to media persons, after calling on the persons injured in a road mishap, admitted at K R Hospital here, Prasad said, “I am satisfied about the performance of the government, as it has succeeded in fulfilling the promises made by the party to the people ahead of the elections. However, the party will discuss the obstacles it had to face in the last two years and decide on the style of functioning in the future”.

Drawing an analogy between the Congress and BJP government, Prasad said, the people are aware about the so-called achievement of the previous BJP-led government in the State.

Though the party was in power on its own for five years and for 20 months in coalition with the JD(S), it failed to fulfil the aspirations of the people. However, the present Congress-led government has succeeded in achieving what BJP couldn’t do in five years.

On the demolition drive in Bengaluru that has rendered many families homeless, Prasad said, “The government has decided to rehabilitate the families from economically weaker sections, who have been pushed to the streets due to the demolition drive against illegal layouts encroaching upon water bodies.

The government is committed to clear the encroachments and is expected to complete it in three months. However, the houses built on the lands allotted by the government will not be pulled down”.

He said, the frequent comments against the government by Legislative Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa has been embarrassing for the party. The party has preferred to remain mum with due respect to the Speaker’s post.
