3 lakh litres of water wasted

Last Updated 19 January 2010, 19:22 IST

Nearly three lakh litres of water went down the drain resulting in stoppage of water supply in the area and surroundings.  Supply was restored on Tuesday after laying a new pipeline.

According to a top BWSSB official, contractors of the BBMP chose to relocate the main feeder pipeline of BWSSB to facilitate construction of the underpass without informing the water supply department about it. “There was a faulty procedure adopted in shifting and this led to the breaking of pipeline and water gushing out,” he said. Water could not be supplied throughout Monday at Uttarahalli, Padmanabha Nagar, Kadiranahalli and Purna Pragya Layout.

BWSSB employees worked whole of Monday night and Tuesday morning to lay a new pipeline, he added. BBMP officials were not accessible for comments.
