A 62-year-old woman was found dead at her house in north-east Delhi’s Khajoori Khas on Thursday.

As the house was found ransacked, police suspect that she was attacked for resisting robbery.

The deceased has been identified as Rajjo, who lived with her husband and son’s family in Sadatpur Extension.

Her husband Mahavir runs a garments showroom in the area.
On Thursday, Mahavir had gone to the showroom, while their son Rajesh had gone to his office in central Delhi’s Karol Bagh.

The incident came to the fore around 8 pm.
“The main gate of the house was found open by their neighbours. When a neighbour went inside, Rajjo was found lying on the bed. As Rajjo was not responding, the neighbour raised an alarm,” said a police officer.

Mahavir was informed and a call was also made to the police control room. Rajjo was declared brought dead at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.

“Initial post-mortem suggests that she was strangled. There were injury marks on her neck, face and arms,” the officer added.

Police have questioned Mahavir, Rajesh, neighbours and some local domestic helps.
In his statement, Mahavir told police that cash and jewellery are missing from the house.

Mahavir said Rajjo may have been targeted as she was alone in the house since Thursday afternoon.

Rajesh was also unusually late to return home on Thursday. He normally reached home by 7.30, but came home on Thursday only after Mahavir informed him about the incident.

Rajesh had left for his office around 9.45 am, while his wife Sanjyogita and daughters Devika, 8, and Gorika, 6, were also not at home.
Sanjyogita and children had gone to her maternal home in west Delhi’s Moti Nagar around 1.30 pm.

A case of murder and robbery has been lodged with Khajoori Khas police station.
Police have also not ruled out the possibility of murder over a personal enmity and house being ransacked to divert the probe.
