Businessman's driver arrested for Rs 1 crore burglary at his place

Police also nab his three accomplices

Four men, including the driver of a family, have been arrested for burglary in which cash and jewellry worth Rs 1 crore were stolen from a house in west Delhi’s Kirti Nagar.

Police have recovered Rs 40 lakh in cash and jewellry worth Rs 50 lakh. The accused have been identified as Challoo, Karan, Ramsurat Tiwari and Ajimulla.Police said Challoo was the complainant’s driver.

Challoo had been working for about one and a half years, but his police verification was not got done by his employer.

On May 10, 59-year-old businessman Satish Kumar Wadhwa had made a PCR call to report the burglary at his house in Kirti Nagar.

The theft occurred when the family was attending a ‘Mata ki Chowki’ at Shubh Nimantaran Banquet Hall in Kirti Nagar late on May 9.

“The family left the house around 7 pm on May 9 and returned around 12.30 am on May 10. They found the main door open. Inside, almirahs were broke open with Rs 50 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh missing,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Pushpendra Kumar.

After an initial probe, police suspected that someone known to the family was involved as a friendly entry was made to the house. 

“We found that Satish’s driver Challoo was the mastermind, who conspired with notorious burglars belonging to his native place in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district,” Kumar added. Police teams sent to Gonda managed to nab Challoo.

Spare key

During interrogation, Challoo told police that he had a spare key of the house and was aware about the family’s whereabouts on May 9.

He was with the family when his accomplices gained into to the house. At his instance, police also arrested Karan, Ramsurat and Ajimulla. Another police team had arrested Karan in Ludhiana.

Police also managed to recover Rs 12 lakh in cash from Challoo, Rs 5 lakh from Ajimullah, Rs 6 lakh from Ramsurat Tiwari and Rs 17 lakh and jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh from Karan.
