Union Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has said birthday celebrations and death anniversary commemorations should not limit towards emphasising and underlining personalities, rather it should be unique following their contributions to the nation.

Briefing reporters, on the sidelines of inaugural ceremony of BJP rally, followed by convention here at Brahmavar, former CM said increasing number of celebrations would henceforth lose any credibility or authenticity from government side, he added referring to death anniversary celebrations of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

He said the government would hereafter support only birth anniversary celebrations and death anniversary celebrations of legendaries like Mahatma Gandhi and B R Ambedkar. The celebrations would hold relevance when the personality has immensely contributed to the development of the nation.

It would be long-drawn-out task to remember personalities for mere adorning prime ministership and other positions on every occasion.

Coming down heavily on Congress led State government over the controversies surrounding marks in PU examinations, the  former Chief Minister said the Chief Minister and Education Minister are answerable to parents. The government should not behave irresponsible.  SSLC and PU examinations are crucial that would decide the future of students.

The examinations process is itself in the mystifying situation. The government should not play with the future of students. He called upon the government to immediately solve confusions by providing grace marks.

He declined to comment on the mysterious death of the bureaucrat D K Ravi and facts being unraveled after the case is handled by CBI. He said the government should lend cooperation to the inquiry.

Retorting to another query regarding handing over the coal based Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) thermal power project to Adani, Law Minister said the UPCL is not the property of the government. The opposition is into the maligning the image of Modi government and is trying to portray the union government as pro investors and pro corporates.

He said the district in charge minister should not indulge in the blame game. Setting aside allegations made by Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Gowda said it is ridiculous that the Centre has withheld Rs 14,000 crore worth allocations to State government. He urged Sorake to lead a delegation to Delhi, wherein he would be part in the process of talks with the concerned ministers and prime minister. He ridiculed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s remarks stating that he would make Karnataka BJP free State.

The Chief Minister has utterly failed in reaching out to the needy and censured that the CM’s achievements are nil. Later speaking at the rally, the Union Law Minister said the government proposal to introduce GST, the solo tax system to all States is referred to Standing Committee and would table it in the parliament.
