It’s 3 am but the neon lights on Brigade Road are on and shining bright. And for the past few days, there is some live rock music too, on in full swing here, through dusk and dawn. The headbangers in the City, who always complain that they don't get enough of rock, are in for a ball!
Bangalore is the destination for the nation’s first ever attempt at continuous 100 hours of live music performance. And it’s happening at Planet M on Brigade Road.
The event titled The 24x7 Rockathon, organised a massive congregation of approximately 50 music bands from all across the country, performing live across five days. The feat is also all set to enter the Limca Book of Records for the longest ever continuous musical concert. The concert, which started on Monday evening, will go on non-stop till Friday evening.
The guests of honour at the kick off of the rockathon concert were children from the Dr S R Chandrasekhar Institute of Speech and Hearing. Visual DJ Archana Prasad added a special dimension through her translation of music, by playing it through image and light for the hearing-impaired children. Says Chandini Moudgil, one of the event organisers, “We have about 50 bands performing from all over India like Pune, Chennai, Mumbai and even Kolkata. They play in two shifts, of about an hour each, to complete the 100-hour rockathon.”
The rockathon features some big names like Swarathma, Raghu Dixit, Inner Sanctum and a lot of local favourites like Galeej Gurus, Kryptos and Illuminati. “This event is also to support the cause of the hearing-impaired child, so we have a band of dentists and doctors called Ledge 13 from Pune,” adds Chandini.
The best performing band will be adjudged by an audience both at the venue and through website that transmits the programmes live by poll at the end of the 100 hours of continuous performance. The winner will get to travel for the festival in the UK. So come rain, come shine, it’s definitely rocking time!
