Congress, BJP bribing voters: CPM

Last Updated 27 May 2015, 18:29 IST

As Gram Panchayat elections are around the corner, both Congress and BJP are getting ready to distribute money and liquor to labourers as an attempt to lure them to caste their vote to their candidates, alleged CPM State Committee Member S Y Gurushanth.

He said the elections which had to reflect the people’s opinion have become a beneficial business. However, the CPM candidates will not follow other parties and the party will take those who belief in democracy into confidence and want to develop their village.

In Gram Panchayat elections, though common man gets the power, it will be passed to some vested interests within days.

To control corruption in Gram Panchayat, schemes should be designed in the presence of villagers. Later it should be submitted to the government for the fund. Both Congress and BJP have failed to strengthen Panchayat Raj system. So, development in panchayat level is not achieved, he said.

District Chief Secretary Dr Durgaprasad said that panchayat system is important for the development of GPs. But, in these days, elections have become a business. In district, CPM candidates will fight elections in 11 GPs, he said.
