Westwood exudes confidence

Bengaluru FC’s impressive home run, which has seen them remain unbeaten in the past 12 games won’t make a difference when they take on Mohun Bagan in the must-win tie at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Sunday, believes coach Ashley Westwood.

“I think form goes out of the window tomorrow when it is like a final. It doesn’t matter what has gone on before or after, its on the day that matters and I am sure of that we can give a good account of ourselves,” said Westwood addressing the media on the eve of the tie.
“We are in good form and lets see what Mohun Bagan brings tomorrow. We are confident and we know we can produce on big occasions.”

Pressure is bound to be on both the sides in a game that’s like a virtual final but Westwood was quick to dismiss the notion, asserting that playing the crunch game at home was a welcome sign. “We are under no pressure whatsoever. We have had conversation with the people at the club, the players and the staff and we know we have had a successful season and we are under no pressure because we already have a trophy in the cabinet,” he added.

“We are at home and we are really strong at home. Obviously Bagan are away and have a poor away record. If you want to win the league then you got to win more than two away games, that would only be 20 per cent of away wins so pressure is on them,” stated Westwood who said that his team will look to build on their home advantage.

The Brit said that he was happy to see the progress his team had made. “The season, wouldn’t call it difficult, it has been a challenge. Teams have improved and looked up at what we have done last season and tried to combat that.”
