Elaborate security cover for final phase

The Home Department has made elaborate security arrangements to ensure law and order during the second phase of the Gram Panchayat elections in the State on Tuesday.

A total of 29,505 police personnel have been deployed for security duties. About 19 SPs, 10 additional SPs, 87 DySPs, 235 CPIs/PIs, 1780 PSIs/ASIs, 17978 HCs/PCs will be on duty to prevent any untoward incident.

As many as 9115 Home Guards, 278 platoons of KSRP/ CAR/DAR and 3 platoons of the Kerala State Reserved Armed Police have been deployed, said a press release from DG&IGP Om Prakash.

As many as 19,079 polling booths have been set up, of which 3294 have been identified as hyper-sensitive, 4,607 as sensitive and 11,178 as ordinary booths, added the release.

Bengaluru City Police Commissioner M N Reddi has clamped prohibitory orders under IPC Section 144 in North, North East, South East and Talaghattapura police limits in the South Police districts in view of the second phase of GP polls. The prohibitory order, which came into effect from 7 pm on Monday, will expire on Tuesday midnight.

Carrying of weapons, sticks, rockets, missiles and such other materials has been banned. Processions have also been banned.
